Police arrest man following robbery, vehicle assault
A 32-year-old man was awaiting possible charges after allegedly using a vehicle to hit a man who tried to stop him after a robbery in the University area.
The assailant grabbed a man’s bag in a Coyne Street business about 10:25 p.m. Saturday and punched the bag’s owner when he tried to hold onto his bag, police said. The robber fled with the bag. When a second man confronted him, the assailant jumped into a vehicle and hit the second man with the vehicle, police said.
The assailant parked in a nearby parking lot and was walking back toward the victims when officers arrived.
Police arrested a man at 2535 Coyne St. on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder and second-degree robbery.
The same man was accused of assaulting numerous people at a Waianae funeral in 2007.
Among the assault victims were the dead man’s father, who was allegedly fell unconscious after being struck in the face with a beer bottle, and the father’s six-month pregnant daughter. The case was dismissed with prejudice, meaning it cannot be brought to court again, in October 2009.
