Woman airlifted from Kauai trail with ankle injury
A 50-year-old Colorado Springs woman was airlifted from Hanakapiai Valley Tuesday afternoon after sustaining an ankle injury.
The woman had been hiking on the Kalalau Trail with her husband when she fell and injured her ankle.
The woman’s husband hiked out to Kee Beach and reported the incident about 2:15 p.m. to county lifeguards, who, in turn, notified police dispatch.
Firefighters from the Hanalei station responded by hiking into the valley to assess her injuries. The responders found the woman about 350 yards from the Hanakapiai landing zone and put her ankle in a splint.
Rescue personnel flew in aboard a helicopter and flew the woman to Princeville Airport, where she was released to her husband who then transported her to Wilcox Hospital.
