Big Island police may be on the lookout for suspicious, extra-large purchases of fish, nori and rice after the theft of a sushi-making machine valued at $12,000 earlier this year.

Police say the electronic appliance weighs nearly 100 pounds, stands about 20 inches high and is about 22 inches long and 14 inches wide. The Autec brand model ASM830A may or may not have the green rice hopper affixed to the top as depicted in a photo released by police.

The machine was taken in a burglary on the 700 block of Kilauea Avenue on Feb. 20.

Police ask that anyone with information on the location of the sushi maker or any other information about this case call Detective Derek Morimoto at 961-2380. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
