State dedicates new public school in Ewa
The state Department of Education dedicated a new $67 million public school on Oahu this morning.
Gov. Neil Abercombine, Ewa state Sen. Will Espero and other dignitaries attended the cermony at Ewa Makai Middle School.
The facility can hold up to 750 students and provides enrollment relief for Ilima Intermediate.
With more funding, there are plans to build another wing to increase capacity to more than 1,000 students.
Ewa Makai Middle is an eco-friendly school and is the only public school in Hawaii that qualifies for the Silver Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
The air-conditioned school’s features include smart boards and a dance studio.
