An 18-year-old man was in police custody this morning, suspected of attempting to kill an elderly relative at their Kalihi home.

Officers  arrested David Hernandez III at 7 p.m. last night after a friend who stopped in for a visit found a 79-year-old man with "massive head injuries" at a home on Haka Drive at 6:45 p.m., police said. An ambulance took the victim to the hospital in critical condition.

Police said an investigation led them to arrest Hernandez at the home.

Hernandez has not been charged.
