Coast Guard locates missing Maui-bound boat
The search for three people on a Maui-bound catamaran has been called off after rescuers were able to reach them by cell phone.
The Coast Guard had started to search for the overdue boat Tuesday morning.
The 45-foot catamaran had departed from Keehi Lagoon in Honolulu at 6 a.m. Monday and was headed for Mala, Maui.
A Coast Guard spokesman says the boaters headed south of Molokai to avoid Monday night’s storm.
The boaters are to continue heading to Molokai and are uninjured.
