Inouye named to deficit reduction panel
Sen. Daniel Inouye of Hawaii has been named to a team tasked with negotiating bipartisan federal deficit reductions.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Thursday appointed Inouye, the chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, and Sen. Max Baucus of Montana, chairman of the Senate Finance Committee.
President Barack Obama called for the creation of the deficit reduction panel Wednesday, with the goal of having a plan prepared by July.
The two Senate Democrats are the first legislators named to the deficit reduction panel, and they’ll be joined by House Democrats and Republicans from both chambers.
