Kilauea volcano is taking it easy for a while

Kilauea Volcano experienced a relatively calm day Sunday as seismic activity remained low and the terrain deflations weakened in intensity.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey’s Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, the summit lava lake slowly filled and drained, causing level changes of several meters and the Puu Oo lava lake continued to fill the deepest part of the crater.

The summit tiltmeter network used to track ongoing cycles of inflation and deflation recorded a deflation starting at 10:20 a.m. that was weaker than the last several; it was not accompanied by any increase in seismic tremors.
