UH softball: Wahine defeat Cleveland State 2-1
Hawaii catcher Sharla Kliebenstein’s run-scoring double in the fifth inning lifted the Rainbow Wahine softball team to a 2-1 win over Cleveland State tonight in the Chevron Spring Fling Tournament.
UH right-hander Stephanie Ricketts (13-4) held the Vikings to three hits and struck out eight in a complete-game victory. Tess Sito (7-5) took the loss for Cleveland State.
The Vikings took the lead in the top of the first inning on Dara Toman’s RBI double to right field. UH answered with a line-drive home run over the right field fence by Kelly Majam to lead off the bottom of the second.
The game remained tied going into the bottom of the fifth when Kliebenstein lined a double into the left-center gap to score Dara Pagaduan from second.
Ricketts held the Vikings down the rest of the way and Wahine won their sixth straight and improved to 22-5.
UH has a doubleheader scheduled for the second day of the tournament. The Wahine face BYU at 5 p.m. and Iona at 7.
