The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch for Kauai and Niihau because of an approaching weather system that could produce heavy showers.

The watch is in effect from this afternoon through tomorrow morning.

Forecasters say a weather system west of the islands that brought us voggy conditions this week will settle near Kauai for the next few days, bringing moist and unstable weather conditions.

The front could also bring isolated showers to Oahu today and tomorrow. There’s a 70 percent chance of rain Friday  in Honolulu and a 50 percent chance of rain on Saturday.

Winds on Oahu and Maui will remain southerly ahead of the front, meaning more voggy weather today.

But relief is in sight.

Forecasters say easterly winds, becoming tradewinds should return late Saturday night or Sunday.

Tim Craig, a forecaster with the National Weather Service, says today will be voggy on Oahu and tomorrow will have a mixture of rain and vog.

"The rain might take some of it (the vog) away. But I doubt seriously it will take all of it," Craig said.

Vog and haze will return to Oahu Saturday as southeasterly winds continue.

But Sunday should be clear.

Craig said tradewinds should be with us through the middle of next week. But another front may shift winds again on Wednesday and the vog may return on southerly breezes.
