Pearl frigate set to sail for western Pacific

A Pearl Harbor-based guided missile frigate is due to leave Hawaii for a deployment to the western Pacific this week.

The USS Reuben James and its crew if about 25 officers and 200 enlisted sailors are due to depart tomorrow. They’re expected to conduct operations with U.S. coalition partners as well as patrol the seas.

Last year, the frigate conducted a joint fisheries patrol with the U.S. Coast Guard and local nations during a four month deployment to the western Pacific. It also distributed medical and hygienic supplies in the Philippines as part of humanitarian relief and goodwill projects.

The vessel returned in June.
