Nevada defeats Hawaii men’s basketball team 86-69
The Hawaii men’s basketball team went winless on its first Western Athletic Conference road trip of the season with an 86-69 loss to Nevada at the Lawlor Events Center today.
The Rainbow Warriors (9-5, 0-2 WAC) allowed a season high in points as the Wolf Pack hit 10 3-pointers.
UH earned a 16-16 tie in the early minutes, then it was all Wolf Pack. UNR (4-10, 1-0) led 45-29 at halftime and wouldn’t allow the Rainbows within 15 points in the second half.
Sophomore center Vander Joaquim led UH with a career-high 22 points and 12 rebounds, despite three first-half personal fouls.
The Rainbow Warriors lost their 12th straight WAC road game and 14th road game overall going back to the 2008-09 season.
UH remained winless against the Pack in Reno in 14 games.

Unheralded UNR forward Olek Czyz had 19 of his 23 points in the first half, Dario Hunt posted 23 points and nine rebounds and Malik Story added 18 points.
Junior guard Miah Ostrowski scored the first points of his UH basketball career with two free throws in the second half.
UH opens its home league schedule on Thursday against Idaho.
