Butler claims Diamond Head Classic title over Washington State
Shelvin Mack scored 20 points and three other players added 14 to lead Butler over Washington State in the championship of the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The Bulldogs (9-4), last year’s national runner-up, dominated the second half 44-30 after leading by just two at halftime.
Butler nailed 11 3-pointers and shot 50 percent from the field overall to 40.7 percent from WSU (10-2).
Matt Howard had 14 points and 11 rebounds and was named the tournament MVP.
WSU guard Klay Thompson scored 31 points in the loss and was also named to the all-tournament team.
