Boy Scouts of America
For Boy Scouts in Hawaii and in the United States, 2010 marks 100 years of Scouting. Each Sunday throughout the year, the Star-Advertiser will present historic photographs and factoids to help commemorate the centennial.
Joshua Saloman is a member of the Flying Eagles Patrol, a unit for deaf Boy Scouts with Troop 108 of Kahala. Saloman, from the Big Island, is a senior at Hawaii School for the Deaf and Blind in Honolulu and dorms at the school during the week. For his Eagle project, he made three permanent raised planter boxes for the school. Joshua earned his Star Scout rank on the Big Island and has been with a Deaf Scout Patrol on Oahu for several years. His Scout leaders also are deaf.
