Firefighters douse smoldering camp fire on Koolau ridge
The fire department’s helicopter was a routine training mission this morning when it spotted smoke coming from Hahaione Valley in Hawaii Kai.
The aircraft’s crew traced the smoke to smoldering remains of a camp fire near a ridgeline leading to the Koolau summit.
The fire department dropped a crew on the ridgeline which hiked to the impromptu camp site and extinguished the fire.
