Interfaith Alliance Hawaii, held at Harris United Methodist Church, 20 S. Vineyard Blvd. The Open Table monthly discussion is from 7 to 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, featuring Ramona Chinn, executive director of the Counseling and Spiritual Care Center of Hawaii. At 7:50 a.m., Valerie Noor Karima Payton will speak on "The Sufi Path and Dances of Universal Peace," using sacred phrases, chants, music and movements from various religions. Payton is a leader of the Honolulu Center of the Mevlevi Order of America (Rumi). She will close with a circle dance that all can join. First Unitarian Church of Honolulu, 2500 Pali Highway, presents "Invalidation," an award-winning play by Sam Spengler and Jackson Shimanoff, 7 p.m. next Saturday. The play depicts two high school students who re-examine their friendship after one has a crippling injury. Unity Church of Hawai’i will hold its fifth annual Pet Blessing Day on Oct. 10 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Waikiki Playground, at the corner of Paki and Monsarrrat avenues. The Rev. Sky St. John will perform a community blessing and then individual blessings of pets. Each pet and pet owner will get a photo, a certificate and a healthful treat for each beloved animal. Pet owners are asked to have their pets on a leash or in a carrier.

Izumo Taishakyo Mission of Hawaii, 215 N. Kukui St. 538-7778. The 104th annual Thanksgiving Festival (Omatsuri) will be held Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. across from the Chinese Cultural Plaza. Following dinner, entertainment, including the Kenny Endo Taiko Ensemble and karaoke, begins at 4:20 p.m.
