A 16-year-old girl was being held at the Juvenile Detention Center in Kapolei attempted to escape while at Hawaii Medical Center West in Ewa Friday afternoon.

The girl was at the center when she complained of an illness and was taken to the hospital, police said. While there, just before 4 p.m., she attempted to escape and an unidentified victim, a 29-year-old woman, prevented her from leaving.

During the struggle, the detainee assaulted the victim, police said. The girl was returned to the detention home, where police later arrested her. She was released pending investigation.
