Djou marks new fiscal year with blast at Congress

Republican U.S. Rep. Charles Djou is marking the start of the 2011 federal fiscal year with a blast at his colleagues.

In a statement Friday, Djou said Congress closed what he contended was “the most fiscally irresponsible sessions in modern American history.”

He says the federal government spent an inordinate amount of money and ran an unprecedented budget deficit while the economy is still struggling.

Moreover, he says Congress did not approve a budget for the 2011 fiscal year nor any of 12 annual appropriations measures.

Djou on Thursday voted against a stopgap spending bill needed to keep federal agencies operating through November.

U.S. Rep. Mazie Hirono and U.S. Sens. Daniel Akaka and Daniel Inouye of Hawaii backed it.
