Sailors rescue fisherman whose boat overturned north of Kaneohe Bay
Three Navy sailors with the Marine Corps Base Hawaii’s waterfront operations unit rescued a fisherman whose boat capsized about 10 miles north of Kaneohe Bay today.
The Honolulu Fire Department received the call at 2:09 p.m. for an overturned boat and contacted Marine Corps Base Hawaii at 2:15 p.m.
The Marine base dispatched two boats at 2:20 p.m. and located the overturned 10-foot, single-engine fishing vessel within an hour, said 2nd Lt. Diann Olson, spokeswoman for Marine Corps Base Hawaii.
The fisherman was wearing a lifejacket and was on top of the capsized vessel, she said. He was in good condition, she said.
The man’s friend came in another boat and picked him up, Olson said.

Rescue personnel flipped the boat over, removed the water and towed the boat back to Kaneohe Bay, where it was released to its owner, Olson said.
