Prescription drug disposal offered
People with outdated prescription drugs can dispose of them safely and anonymously beginning tomorrow as the islands join a nationwide movement to keep old medications away from potential abusers and out of Hawaii’s water supply.
Only tablets, capsules and other solid medications will be accepted and incinerated according to federal and state environmental guidelines, state Attorney General Mark Bennett announced yesterday.
Intravenous solutions and syringes will not be allowed.
People wanting to dispose of prescription drugs can call 837-8470 or visit hawaii.gov/ag, or bring their medications to the following locations:
» 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday: Longs Drugs Moiliili, 2220 S. King St.
» 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday: Molokai Drugs, 28 Kamoi St., Suite 100, Kualapuu.
