Mufi Hannemann’s campaign for Hawaii governor said today it didn’t receive any contributions exceeding $500 during a 10-day period leading up to Saturday’s Democratic primary election against Neil Abercrombie.

Abercrombie raised $177,000 in contributions worth more than $500 between Sept. 4 and Sept. 14, according to a report filed with the state Campaign Spending Commission.

But the Hannemann campaign didn’t file a fundraising report with the state because none of its contributions during that time amounted to more than $500, the minimum amount triggering required disclosures, said spokeswoman Brooke Wilson.

She said the reason for the lack of last-minute donors is that the campaign already tapped out its largest contributors earlier in the campaign.

“According to plan, we are spending the final days of this campaign reaching out to voters and sharing Mufi Hannemann’s vision to jump-start Hawaii’s economy, put people back to work, bolster our public education system and make Hawaii the best place to live, work and raise our families,” said Hannemann campaign spokeswoman Carolyn Tanaka.

Abercrombie said his late donations indicate the strength of his campaign.

“Everything is surging, and everything is coming to a tremendous and joyful conclusion,” Abercrombie said. “It’s because people are drawing conclusions about this campaign.”

Recent contributions to Abercrombie put his total fundraising over $3 million.

Hannemann had raised $3.5 million through Sept. 3, including money transferred from his mayoral campaigns.

Besides the $177,000 in donations worth more than $500 each, Abercrombie’s campaign said it also received nearly $45,000 in small donations, bringing its total to about $222,000 during the 10-day timeframe.

Wilson said she didn’t have a figure to show how much the Hannemann campaign’s recent small contributions added up to.

Hannemann had nearly three times more savings than Abercrombie as of the Sept. 3 campaign reports.

At the time, Hannemann had $790,000 in his treasury compared with $275,000 for Abercrombie.
