Penn returns to fight Hughes in November
Hilo’s B.J. Penn will fight Matt Hughes for the third time in the co-main event of UFC 123 on Nov. 20 in Detroit.
The fight was officially announced by the UFC this afternoon.
Penn (15-7-1) is coming off a decision loss to lightweight champion Frankie Edgar at UFC 118 on Aug. 28. He is moving up in weight to fight Hughes (46-7) at 170 pounds.
Penn defeated Hughes to win the UFC welterweight title in 2004, but left the company following the win. Two years later, the two faced off again with Hughes retaining the title with a third-round TKO victory.
Penn is one of only two fighters to win world titles in multiple weight classes.
A light heavyweight fight between Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Lyoto Machida is the main event.
