Jack Cione, the Arcadia’s irrepressible "Follies" producer-director, had his heart set on a weeklong Broadway trek to catch up on shows, but while going through security to board a plane, he tripped and suffered fractures in his left knee and shoulder. "They called the ambulance, and I wound up at Straub for a week," said Cione, whose knee cast has since been removed. "It’s the worst ‘trip’ I ever had." Or never had.

He stumbled over a signpost and thought he could head to the Big Apple, but quickly realized the severity of his mishap. "I’ve been on pain medication, with meals sent up to the apartment; the only trip I’ve made was to the bathroom," he said. Since wife Maydelle wasn’t traveling this time, Cione didn’t have show reservations, so he saved a good $1,000 in admissions. He’s recuperating for an October sea cruise. …

AIR WAVES: Dennis Mahaffay is now producing Hawaiian Airlines’ "Hawaiian Skies" in-flight programming for Laird Christianson Advertising — providing Hawaiian passengers on trans-Pacific, South Pacific and Australian routes an enriching island experience. Mahaffay’s working on programming that will include Burton White and Robert Cazimero’s "Ahihi Lehua" show at the Hawaii Theatre and Roy Sakuma’s 40th Ukulele Festival at Kapiolani Park Bandstand, which should be viewable Oct. 1 in flight and at Hawaiian-Skies.com.

"While other carriers like United have abandoned self- or co-produced in-flight programming, Hawaiian Airlines is committed to expanding the Hawaii experience," said Mahaffay, who also is working on the Audy Kimura-produced "Hawaii Goes Fishing" TV show. …

NAME-DROPPING: Jack and Cha Thompson took a staycation to catch Tihati Productions’ newest show, "Te Au Moana," directed and choreographed by their daughter Misty Tufono and son Afatia Thompson, at the Wailea Beach Marriott Resort. Had time to dine at Ruth’s Chris at the Shops at Wailea and Mala in the Marriott (where actress Sharon Stone dined recently), as well as lunch at Mama’s Fish House. And, like tourists, shopped in Paia and Makawao. …

Meanwhile, nearly 20 "Pirates of the Caribbean" wardrobe folks took in Tihati’s "Creation" spectacle at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani Hotel … while out Heeia Pier way, locals were giddy at the sight of the pirate ship in port, where Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz and Geoffrey Rush did scenes. …

Slack-key guitarist Jeff Peterson joins the Kani Ka Pila Grille ohana of performers from 6 to 9 p.m. today and again Aug. 8 and 15 at the Outrigger Reef on the Beach. …
