Seminar focuses on listening to God
Hawaiian Islands Ministries is accepting registration for its "Life in the Spirit" seminar, Aug. 19-21 at the Koolau Ballrooms Conference Center.
This year’s focus will be "Hearing & Healing." Speakers Jack Deere, Mike Evans and Christy Pierce will talk about hearing God’s voice, physical and inner healing, and how to serve God and others in meaningful ways, a news release said.
Here is the schedule: Aug. 19, 6:30 to 9 p.m.; Aug. 20, 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Aug. 21, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The cost is $169 prepaid by 5 p.m. Aug. 9, or $199 at the door. It includes all meals starting with Friday breakfast and ending with Saturday lunch. There will be a $25 fee for refunds; no refunds will be made after Aug. 9. Register at himonline.org.

Deere, a pastor and former seminary professor, is author of several books, including "Surprised by the Power of the Holy Spirit" and "Surprised by the Voice of God." Evans is the founder and director of Wholeness Ministries in Bakersfield, Calif. Pierce is a writer and co-founding pastor with her husband, Ben Pierce, of New Hope Peninsula Church in San Carlos, Calif.

Mormons open new Samoan ward
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has opened a new Samoan-language ward at the Kalaeloa Chapel in the Kapolei Business Park.
The Maili Kai Ward invites all to join in worship at 11 a.m. Sunday mornings on Lauwiliwili Avenue. Its first service was held July 11.
The Samoan ward is part of the Makakilo Stake, which includes seven English-language wards from Makakilo and Kapolei to Makaha. (A ward is a congregation of 150 members or more.) The Samoan ward is led by Bishop Filipo Ilaoa and his counselors, Sofeni Toilolo and Faauu Tana.
The main worship service, called sacrament meeting, and the following adult Sunday school classes will be offered in Samoan. Sunday school for teenagers and primary school classes for younger children will be available in English.
