Brush fire near Pearl City Industrial Park brought under control
Firefighters brought a wildfire below the Pearl City Industrial Park under control in 50 minutes last night.
Eleven fire units were dispatched after the 8:30 p.m. alarm. The fire, which burned two to three acres, was declared under control at 9:20 p.m.
Capt. Terry Seelig said the area is mostly fallow sugarcane land with gulches and ravines, and is difficult to access, and water had to be shuttled to both locations. No property or lives were threatened by the brush fire.
Police shut down the H-2 freeway’s northbound lanes as firefighters worked from the freeway as well as on an unpaved road closer to the industrial park to fight the fire.
Seelig said the fire began closer to Waihona Street, which leads to the industrial park, and extended toward the H-2 freeway.
