Mayoral hopefuls agree to debate in July
The five hopefuls to succeed Mayor Mufi Hannemann have agreed to a debate next month in Kapolei.
Organizers say city managing director Kirk Caldwell, Honolulu Prosecutor Peter Carlisle, City Councilman Donovan Dela Cruz, University of Hawaii engineering professor Panos Prevedouros and City Councilman Rod Tam have confirmed their participation.
The forum is being presented by the West Oahu Economic Development Association and Kapolei Chamber of Commerce is scheduled from noon to 2 p.m., July 9 at the FilCom Center in Waipahu.
Issues to be addressed include the rail transit project, economic development, social services and real estate development, among others.
Candidates are running to fill the final two years of the term being vacated by Hannemann, who plans to resign next month to run for governor.
The fee for the event is $35 for association and Kapolei Chamber of Commerce members, and $45 for nonmembers. Registration begins at 10:45 a.m.
