‘8: The Mormon Proposition’ **

A behind-the-scenes look at the church’s involvement in California’s voter initiative to remove gay marriages from the state’s statute. Local audiences will take interest in a segment on how the church orchestrated Hawaii’s battle for civil unions in the ’90s. (Not rated, 78 mins.)

‘Jonah Hex’

Writer/director Nicole Holofcener’s latest film on women caught up in modern life’s contradictions, good intentions and shaky moral bearings.
