Hilo, Kawaiahae ports to close; Young Brothers cancels some voyages

With two hurricanes approaching the islands, the Coast Guard will close Hilo and Kawaiahae ports at 8 p.m. and Young Brothers has cancelled its voyages from Honolulu to Hilo and Molokai today.

No cargo will be accepted at those ports until further notice, Young Brothers said in an announcement.

“We will be working with state and federal officials and keeping our customers informed for the duration of [Hurricanes] Madeline and Lester,” said Young Brothers Vice President Roy Catalani.

Young Brothers will not resume sailing to Hilo and Kaunakakai until both hurricanes have passed the island chain.

Instead of sailing to Kaumalapau, Lanai, today, the company sent its vessel over early, leaving Monday and arriving today.

I wonder how this affected NCL 7-Day Hawaii cruise ?
Today (Tuesday) the ship is/was scheduled to dock at Hilo.
Tomorrow the port call is Kona.

Poor tourists spends thousands of dollars 🙁

We’ve had our vacations ruined by bad weather too.

Don’t know but that cruise is one of the best if you want a different perspective on our island home. Sitting on our balcony and watching a mother and calf humpback play while having coffee was priceless.
