The collision occurred at 3131 N. Nimitz Highway.
At approximately 7 p.m Thursday, police said a man in his 20s operating the SUV was traveling eastbound on Nimitz when the vehicle struck the pedestrian who was walking mauka across the highway.
She suffered head and internal trauma and was transported to Queen’s. Police said she was not in a crosswalk.
The SUV driver, the sole occupant in the vehicle, did not suffer any injuries.
Police said speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision.

Homeless??
ACLU needs to ask the Mayor of Honolulu for a high visibility vest for every homeless.
jeff, Id bet she was a vagrant, if she was crossing illegally. Under the viaduct is VERY dark, especially after sunset. Visibility is very low, from one end of the viaduct to the other.
Do those SUVs have a mind of their own…? You never hear “Pick Up Truck” strikes pedestrian. Or “Compact Car” jumps curb. The vehicle type is only mentioned if it’s one of those evil, gas guzzling, over-priced, politically incorrect… SUVs. Notice the media bias? I can see the movie title now… “The Attack of the SUVs”
SUV? Such Unproductive Vehicles?
People need SUVs or heavy duty trucks to safely navigate our “bomb crater filled” streets today.
Cars speeding and blind corner around each cement column. makes for a dangerous situation. Make sure that driver sees you before crossing.
Why don’t we ever see a headline saying, “Pedestrian’s ignorance proves costly” or “Pedestrian’s gamble crossing street doesn’t pay off”?
