Medical examiner: Aliamanu woman died of stab wounds
A 65-year-old woman killed in Aliamanu on Monday died of stab wounds and cuts to the neck, the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office said today.
The office ruled Melita Fajotina’s death a homicide.
Police arrested her husband and then released him Tuesday, pending further investigation.
Police said officers found Fajotina unresponsive at a Wanaka Street home about 5:35 a.m. Monday and she died at the scene. Her husband, Isagani Fajotina, was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition with a self-inflicted stab wound.
A second woman, 52, also sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene, police said.
Isagani Fajotina underwent surgery and was going to be OK, a family member said.
Police arrested him on suspicion of second-degree murder and second-degree attempted murder and classified the case as a murder and attempted suicide case.
On Tuesday night, police released Fajotina pending investigation. He remained hospitalized at Queen’s on Wednesday.
Fajotina worked with his wife at Queen’s where he is a janitor and she was a nursing assistant.
A family member said Fajotina, a Vietnam veteran, was suffering from mental issues and he may have overdosed on prescription drugs.

it took a medical examiner to determine that ?
Haven’t you been watching the TV crime shows? Nothing is as it appears until a Medical Examiner makes it official.
