UH’s Sheldon-Collins earns Big West honor
Hawaii senior shortstop Jacob Sheldon-Collins was named the Big West Field Player of the Week today.
Sheldon-Collins hit .533 (8-for-15) with three runs and five RBIs during a three-game sweep of UC Davis over the weekend that pushed Hawaii into sole possession of first place in the conference at 5-1.
The Melbourne, Australia native has been on a tear since missing two games against Chicago State last month with the flu.
In 12 games since, Sheldon-Collins is batting .490 (24-for-49) with nine runs and eight RBIs.
He has had at least two hits in nine of those games and his current seven-game hitting streak has increased his batting average to a BWC-leading .412.
Sheldon-Collins is the only player in the Big West batting over .400 for the season.
Hawaii, which has won 10 of 13, is hitting .272 as a team and all nine starting position players are batting at least .280 in Big West play.
The Rainbow Warriors (16-15, 5-1) host Cal Poly (19-11, 2-1) for a three-game series starting Friday at Les Murakami Stadium.
