Hawaii baseball falls at LMU
Loyola Marymount freshman Codie Paiva allowed two runs over six innings in his first collegiate start and the Lions hammered two home runs in a 13-2 win over Hawaii today in a nonconference game at Page Stadium in Los Angeles.
Paiva (1-0), who was teammates with UH catcher Kekai Rios last year at Kamehameha, struck out seven and gave up his first two runs of the season for LMU (21-20).
Matt LoCoco’s two-run triple in the fifth inning provided the only offense for Hawaii (18-20), which has lost five of six.
Patrick Martin (1-2) gave up one hit in the first inning, but it was a three-run homer by Nico Decolati.
Joe Christian added a solo shot in the second off Martin, who gave up six runs on four hits in two innings.
The Lions built an 11-0 lead after the third inning, tacking on five runs off UH reliever Kyle Mitchell, who recorded only two outs.
UH shortstop Jacob Sheldon-Collins went 2-for-3 to raise his season average to .401.
Hawaii will have three days off on the road before opening a Big West series at No. 19 UC Santa Barbara on Friday.
