It helps to have Randy Neverson running the ball, catching passes, returning kicks and throwing touchdown strikes.
Neverson put his all into the all-purpose tag, leading No. 8 Leilehua to a 46-27 pasting of No. 9 Waianae on Friday night in Waianae.
The 205-pound senior got his night rolling on the opening kickoff with a 57-yard return, and although the Mules (3-0, 3-0 OIA Red) didn’t score on the drive, it set the tone for the rest of the game.
Later in the first quarter, Neverson took a lateral from quarterback Kalanimoku Pauole and delivered a 36-yard touchdown pass to a wide-open Austin Molina for a 7-0 lead.
Neverson’s night was just beginning. He added a 21-yard TD romp late in the first quarter and a 17-yard scoring catch from Pauole just before halftime for a 34-7 lead at the break.
Paul Ke-a had a big night for the Mules on defense. He intercepted a pass that led to a first-half touchdown, recovered a fumble and had two sacks.
Jeremiah Tuiolemotu recovered a fumble that led to a Leilehua touchdown as well.
Maika Koko turned in a huge two-way performance for the Seariders. He rumbled in for four sacks and also caught a 6-yard TD pass from Ioane Kaluhiokalani early in the second half that started a Waianae comeback attempt. That TD made it 34-14.
After Leilehua scored on a Pauole 10-yard pass to Jadan Gilliland in the third quarter, the Seariders (1-2, 1-2) cut it to 40-21 on Jurick Valdez’s 15-yard TD run.
