The 24th annual Ho‘okuikahi Service, which celebrates Queen Liliuokalani’s legacy of peace and nonviolence, will be held next week at Harris United Methodist Church, 20 S. Vineyard Blvd.
Set for 7 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 17, the event’s hookuikahi theme focuses on reconciling, reuniting and unifying.
Guest speakers include the Rev. See Hee Han, district superintendent of the Hawaii District of the United Methodist Church; the
Rev. Robert L. Fitzpatrick, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Hawaii; the Rev. Randolph Sykes, president of The Interfaith Alliance Hawaii; Dean Walter Brownridge, representing Faith Action for Community Equity; and Kahu Kaleo Patterson, president of the Pacific Justice and Reconciliation Center.
The event will include a ceremony titled “Na Pua Ho‘okuikahi (Floral Reconciliation),” presented by sensei Nalani Takushi and Haaheo Guanson.
Music will be provided by John Robert Renke, music and choir director at the Cathedral of St. Andrew; the First Tongan United Methodist Church’s choir, directed by Alani Tuifua; Valerie Napualokelani Hunglu and AnaTautu’u Fisilau; and soloist Celine Carr. Stories of hope, healing and reconciliation also will be shared.
