State Sen. Sam Slom remained hospitalized Wednesday for what his staff described as “routine testing and treatment following his hospitalization last month for a stubborn infection.”
Staff in Slom’s office declined to say where Slom has been hospitalized, and said in a news release he expects to return to the state Legislature next week.
Slom (R, Diamond Head-Kahala-Hawaii Kai) wrapped up a busy day of hearings Monday before checking himself in to the hospital, according to the news release.
“It’s unfortunate that this follow-up occurs during such a critical time,” Slom said in his written statement. “Though I’m much happier giving orders than getting them, these were the doctor’s orders and I was told that voting NO was not an option.”
Slom is the only Republican in the Senate and “continues to collaborate daily with his staff on all legislative activities,” according to the statement.
“I would like to thank my staff, dedicated supporters, friends and family for their continuing support,” Slom said. “They have all recognized, as must I, that doing the business of the people requires attention to maintaining my health — especially my vocal cords — so I can continue asking the important questions and voting NO to more taxes, overregulation, infringement of constitutional rights and mushrooms on my pizza.”
