Homeless man charged in car theft
Authorities have charged a 32-year-old homeless man who allegedly tried to evade police after he was stopped in Kunia driving a car that was reported stolen.
Pekelo Sanchez was charged Monday with car theft. His bail was set at $35,000.
Officers stopped Sanchez at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Kunia Walmart because of traffic violations. However, he fled, crashed the car in a Kunia field and ran away, police said. He was caught several hours later on Kunia Road, and police found out the car had been reported stolen.
