A Maui Police Department officer has been charged with violating a warning related to a domestic abuse incident, Maui police said.
Carlos Frate, 31, of Kihei was arrested at 3:22 p.m. Tuesday and charged with violation of a warning citation. He was released after posting $1,000 bail.
Maui police said the warning citation stemmed from an abuse of family or household member case.
Frate has more than five years of service with MPD and is assigned to the Kihei Patrol District. He has been assigned to desk duty.
Driver sought in Nanakuli hit-and-run
CrimeStoppers and Honolulu police are asking for the public’s help to find a hit-and-run driver who critically injured a man in Nanakuli earlier this month.
At about 3:55 a.m. Feb. 3, a white van hit a 27-year-old man crossing Farrington Highway near Piliokahi Avenue and fled the scene, CrimeStoppers said in a news release.
The man’s father heard the crash and found him lying on the highway. Paramedics took the victim in critical condition to a hospital. He has no recollection of the accident, police said.
The van might have front-end damage.

Gunshots precede police chase and arrest
A 26-year-old man was taken into custody following reports of gunshots early Wednesday morning.
The suspect was arrested after a brief police chase in the Salt Lake area after a witness reported seeing a person firing a weapon at about 5:40 a.m.
The suspect, two women and another man were reported driving away from the scene.
The suspect was caught at his Salt Lake Boulevard home an hour later and arrested on suspicion of reckless endangering, being a felon in possession of a firearm, first-degree terroristic threatening, first-degree criminal property damage and a drug offense.

Crews search off Big Isle for missing diver
The Coast Guard and Hawaii County Fire Department are searching for a missing 69-year-old diver off Puako Beach on Hawaii island.
The Coast Guard said Diana Wolking was last seen entering the water at 7:20 p.m. Wednesday with a scuba tank and wearing a black rash guard, a black-and-white bikini bottom and black fins.
After more than an hour, witnesses said her truck was still parked at the beach and could not see any sign of her in the water or near the beach.
A Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter, s HC-130 Hercules airplane from Air Station Barbers Point and the cutter Kittiwake searched the area Wednesday night and Thursday. They were joined by a county Fire Department helicopter and a rescue boat crew and divers.
Haleakala fire fails to expand but smoulders
A brush fire first spotted Monday on the southern slopes of Haleakala was still smouldering but no longer spreading Thursday, a Maui fire official said.
“The perimeter of the fire has not expanded,” said Maui Fire Services Chief Edward Taomoto.
Taomoto estimated that the brush fire, first reported at 5:40 p.m. Monday, was about 40 percent contained. Since Monday the fire has burned about 5,300 acres.
The fire was still smouldering along the northern, mauka edge of the charred area, where ground crews were utilizing bulldozers to cut a firebreak.
