A 55-year-old man was in serious condition with burns to his legs and arms Monday afternoon after a fire erupted in a Makaha home, according to an Emergency Medical Services report.
Three adults were displaced by the fire, and the American Red Cross was dispatched to assist them.
Ten fire companies, including 32 firefighters, responded to the two-alarm building fire shortly after 1:30 p.m. at 84-725 Fricke St. At the scene they found a one-story, single-family dwelling with smoke and flames emanating from the rear of the structure.
Firefighters secured a water source and initiated an aggressive interior attack utilizing firefighting foam to suppress the flames and prevent the fire from spreading further, according to a Honolulu Fire Department news release. It was declared as under control at 2 p.m., and second-alarm companies were canceled en route. The blaze was fully extinguished by 2:09 p.m.
Paramedics responding to the scene treated the man for burns to his arms and legs and transported him in serious condition to a hospital. Two other people, who had been inside the home at the time of the fire, escaped the blaze without injury.
The fire is under investigation. Its cause and the fire damage estimate were not available.
