An eight-year veteran of the Honolulu Police Department and a former University of Hawaii volleyball player, Maulia LaBarre, was arrested Tuesday in Waikiki by the state Attorney General’s Office for investigation of attempted bribery, prostitution and illegal use of a computer.
LaBarre was arrested at 7 p.m. Tuesday by investigators with the Attorney General’s Office.
LaBarre, a standout middle blocker for the UH men’s volleyball team between 2001 and 2006, was booked by the Sheriff Division and released pending investigation. Charges have not been filed.
HPD Deputy Chief Marie McCauley said police assisted in the investigation and arrest, and have opened an internal administrative investigation.
“The Honolulu Police Department holds its personnel to a higher standard of conduct. Illegal or unethical behavior is not tolerated and any alleged breach of these standards is taken very seriously,” McCauley said.
LaBarre will be placed on unpaid leave, police said.
LaBarre graduated from Roosevelt High School.
A number of HPD officers have gotten into trouble or are being investigated:

>> Charges are still pending against former Sgt. Anson Kimura, a 25-year veteran who retired last year after he allegedly shot a bartender in the stomach in a McCully bar in April 2015.

Sylvester also faces having his license administratively revoked for refusing to be tested. The incident occurred April 3.
>> In March, officer Landon Rudolfo pleaded guilty to knowingly buying and then selling a stolen vehicle in 2011. He faces a maximum 10-year prison term at his sentencing in July.
>> Former officer Roddy Tsunezumi was sentenced last year to 33 months in federal prison for trying to extort money from hostess bars.
>> Also last year, former police officers Vincent Morre and Nelson Tamayori and former reserve officer Joseph Becera were convicted after Morre assaulted two men in an illegal game room in 2014.
>> Former 10-year police veteran Alan Ahn, 54, is scheduled for trial next month after being indicted last year while an officer on nine counts, including promoting dangerous drugs and promoting harmful drugs.
>> Former officer Kramer Aoki was charged in 2015 with fondling a 17-year-old girl’s breast during a traffic stop in 2014. A state judge dismissed the case because the state did not establish that the girl was in police custody, but a prosecutor recharged Aoki days after his firing with misdemeanor sexual assault. That case is pending.
