Firefighters were mopping up after a two-alarm fire destroyed a home on Olive Avenue in Wahiawa Saturday afternoon.
Firefighters responding to the 3:50 p.m. alarm found a home engulfed in flames at 246 Olive Ave., Capt. David Jenkins said. Firefighters from 10 companies brought the flames under control at 3:57 p.m.
A man living at the home escaped without injury.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimate was immediately available, although the home is considered a total loss, Jenkins said.
3 pulled from rough North Shore surf
Firefighters, lifeguards and the Coast Guard rescued three people in rough sea and weather conditions off Mokuleia on the North Shore early Saturday afternoon.
Firefighters brought two men to shore after they got into trouble while kayaking at about 12:20 p.m.
A 28-year-old woman was swept further out, past the surf break, without safety gear or a kayak, said Shayne Enright, an Emergency Services spokeswoman.
Enright said the weather was windy and rainy and waves were breaking with 6-to-10-foot faces.
A Coast Guard plane spotted the woman, and lifeguards brought her back to shore on a rescue watercraft.
