Detectives opened a first-degree attempted murder case involving a possible early morning drive-by shooting in Kalihi.
Officers responded to Ahonui Street near the Kokua Kalihi Valley Comprehensive Family Services building at about 3 a.m. Wednesday.
Lt. Roy Nakama of the Honolulu Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division said two victims, one male and one female, suffered gunshot wounds to their lower extremities.
Detectives found shell casings on the roadway.
A family member drove the victims to the Queen’s Medical Center, where they were treated for nonlife-threatening injuries and released, according to a friend of the male victim.
The friend, who declined to give her name, said the male victim is 19 years old and suffered two gunshot wounds to his leg. The age of the female victim was unknown.
She said the victims, who are homeless, were hanging out on Ahonui Street near the family services building when a person inside a two-door, dark-colored sedan drove by and allegedly shot them.
There was no additional information on the shooter.
