A contractor’s crew working on the rail-transit project broke the gas line on Kamehameha Highway Thursday morning, necessitating a cordoned-off safety zone that caused the snarl and prevented patrons of Anna Miller’s Restaurant from retrieving their cars from the lot.

With rail work intensifying in bustling urban areas, now’s the crucial time to doublecheck — triplecheck — where those gas and utility lines are buried.

Kaiser Permanente Hawaii says it will end its Saturday hours at 13 clinics statewide in March because fewer patients were utilizing the service. Kaiser said more patients have moved toward high-tech options such as sending “medical selfies” to their doctors to be diagnosed remotely.

To ease the burden, Kaiser said it will make more primary-care appointments available during the weekdays and expand hours at its After Hours Care clinic at Moanalua Medical Center. Note to Kaiser patients: Plan extra time for doctor appointments. And try not to fall ill on Saturdays.
