Inquiring minds will be following closely the story of Brian Ahakuelo, leader of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1260, who officially retired Tuesday just days after he and of his staff were placed on paid administrative leave.
The IBEW in Washington, D.C., placed Local 1260 in trusteeship in order to investigate and correct financial issues. Ahakuelo, who has been with the union for more than three decades, said the inquiry is “a positive thing because there are no improprieties.”
Ahakuelo had been criticized by subordinates for his spending of union dues, including the hiring of four immediate family members. He and his family raked in $600,000-plus in combined salaries last year.
We’re guessing he has a healthy nest egg.
