Visitor arrivals up again, by 6.2%

The number of visitor arrivals in January puts the state on track to reach the Hawaii Tourism Authority’s forecast of attracting 8.8 million people this year. Arrivals were up 6.2 percent for the month, to 720,997. Tourists ride a trolley in Waikiki.

Hawaii’s activities and attractions industries will likely be more profitable in 2016 than in 2015, said Toni Marie Davis, executive director of the Activities & Attractions Association of Hawaii Inc. But, she warned, “more visitors doesn’t necessarily mean more spending, especially since 75 percent of the visitors are repeat visitors.”
