Barbecue chain coming to Hawaii
Dickey’s Barbecue Pit will open five locations in Hawaii, the Dallas-based chain announced today.
“Dickey’s has grown rapidly nationwide, and we are proud to add our 44th state,” says Roland Dickey, Jr., CEO of Dickey’s Barbecue Restaurants Inc., in a statement. “The new stores in Hawaii are our first venture as a company beyond the continental United States, and we look forward to further expansion overseas in the future.”
The chain slow-smokes meats on-site at each restaurant and has more than 530 locations in 43 states.
Two-market franchisee Jack Chubb, who owns and operates locations in Sarasota and Wesley Chapel, Florida, will open five new stores in Florida in addition to the five Hawaii locations.
Chubb is a former hospital administrator who, after a 34-year career, became a Dickey’s franchisee.
Details of the locations for the Hawaii stores have not yet been released.

Yeah, I love BBQ. Thank you so much for bringing it to Hawaii. Texas BBQ, please??? #Kaaihue4Mayor, http://www.kaaihue4mayor.com
I brought my puppy’s bowl to, dicckys, and they knew what it is for. Piling on the ribs. Don’t be bashful.
Bet all will be located on Oahu.
Let’s hope so.
I could take some to the neighbor island on the ferry.
Better have kalbi and teri.
Catbi?
Not dat kine BBQ;-)
NanakuliBoss – got plenty kine li dat already!
Don’t worry, these outlets will be gone in less than 5 years…..sad
Nah I think between the military, mainland transplants, visitors (think Asian tourist looking for American BBQ), and locals who have had good BBQ, I think the franchise will thrive. The key will be locations and don’t be surprised if the locations include a military base. I hope its Texas BBQ too although I also like Carolina BBQ.
Kansas City metro area, BBQ capital of the world ;>)
Military commissary is way cheaper than eating out. That’s where I go.
I really miss Tony Roma’s and their loaf of onion rings.
Maybe not, some people are tired of L&L, Zippys, etc. If the food tastes good, service is good, portions are generous, prices are competitive and good locations with parking, they might do quite well in Hawaii. From HawaiiCheeseBall’s point, I hope they hire locally and management provides an atmosphere that is inclusive and not cater only to “military, mainland transplants and visitors” they will do okay. If Dickey’s runs this new restaurant like a Paula Dean restaurant or a sports bar in Utah that excludes Polynesians and other non-whites, garans they will fail in Hawaii.
Agree, another chain that expands too fast, gets overextended financially, then crash and burn. Besides, population makeup is totally different here.
So many new eateries of late. The competition will keep the price low, and be forced to give more food. Pile it high on the plate.

This State has been a BBQ wasteland forever. Finally moving back to the mainland and this happens, oh well.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the state imposes a five cent fee for the disposed rib bones that is taking up room at the landfill.
According to their website, they don’t serve beef ribs. So unfortunately it’s not really a complete Texas BBQ.
Do they serve feral cat ribs?
Pork ribs are better, anyway.
Pork bones are much softer to chew.
Maybe we can get the Salt Lick to open a restaurant in Hawaii. The wife of the founder is from Kauai, and they serve Japanese style “cole slaw” along with some good beef ribs.
I miss Yick Lung’s crack seeds in the yellow label.
Denny’s has not conquered Zippy’s, just as Walgreen’s has not conquered Longs. In Hawaii, Zippy’s and Long’s are all time traditions.
There is enough room to please all vendors in Hawaii. That’s why the CEO’s talent is paid billions.
I’m not if we can use the word, dicckys in Hawaii for all the underaged to view?
I love BBQ Brisket. Never tried Dickey’s so we’ll see.
Looks like Southeast style BBQ, think upper central Florida & panhandle, southern Georgia style. Meats are slow smoked and then sauced. Checked the website and they have fried okra, which is something to look forward to.
I’ve been to Dickey’s in the Southeast. Hawaii you’re in for a treat.
Please come to Hawaii Kai!!!
Amen…..
Kahala first.
Hope they stay on Oahu and Maui. Both islands are more like the mainland than Hawaii anyways. Leave the other islands alone. Don’t need/want it.
I’ve been to a few Dickeys. Food is very good, portions are not for the price, very disappointing when real texas bbq is usually in mounds and piled on the plate, their bbq sandwich is barely the size of a hot dog on a roll. and of course, in Hawaii the price will be even higher Im sure.
