Police seize 2,200 pounds of illegal fireworks in Waipahu
Police seized 2,200 pounds of illegal fireworks Wednesday in the Waipahu area, according to a Honolulu Police Department news release.
Officers received a tip, which led them to the stash of illegal fireworks, police said.
Also, police arrested a 44-year-old Kapalama vendor on Wednesday for allegedly selling firecrackers to a plainclothes officer.
The vendor allegedly sold the fireworks to the officer, who did not present a valid permit.
Police continue to urge residents to report suspicious or illegal fireworks activity to police.
Anyone found selling, possessing or using illegal fireworks could face up to five years in jail and/or a fine of up to $10,000.

Please fine and jail these people! How did these people get these illegal fireworks! Who are the fools supporting these lawbreakers by purchasing these unlawful items! Jail and fine them all!
Agree. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year to you too!!
Yes, Please give them the max sentences and fines. Quit making empty threats about fines and jail and just do it.
Maybe they held on to them from when they were legal. I am so sick of them going off late at night ever since Thanksgiving. These people are so rude!
agree..lot of organized crime apparently is involved with the massive fraud.
Who you talking about the Gambino’s?
Don’t worry….they will end up on the Eastside
A class C felony charge would seem to be appropriate for a 1000 kilo seizure.
And they should seize the sellers property. Storage and disposal is going to be a costly. remember Waikele, State of Hawaii, will watching very carefully how disposal work will be done.
Anybody got a match?
Keep up the good work! Kudos to HPD
Thank you!
