Magnitude 4.6 earthquake shakes Big Island

The earthquake was reported at 6:43 a.m. about nine miles southeast of Waikoloa.
A magnitude-4.6 earthquake rattled the Big Island this morning.
The quake was reported at 6:43 a.m. about nine miles southeast of Waikoloa, 24 miles northeast of Kailua-Kona, and 39 miles west-northwest of Hilo.
It had a depth of 18.6 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
It was originally reported as magnitude-4.4, but later upgraded to 4.6.
There is no threat of a tsunami.
Residents on Oahu from Waimanalo to Makakilo reported feeling the earthquake this morning.

The USGS web site’s “Did you feel it?” page Opens in a new tab received hundreds of responses mostly from the Big Island but many from other islands, including one from Waianae, 195 miles from the epicenter.
