High surf advisory in effect for Oahu, Maui; Kauai under warning
The large, reinforcing northwest swell that rolled through the island chain yesterday is subsiding today, but warning-level surf is still expected to pound Kauai County through this evening.
A high surf warning is in effect for the north and west shores of Kauai County through 6 p.m. A high surf advisory is in effect for the north and west shores of Oahu, Molokai and the north shore of Maui through 6 p.m.
Surf for affected shores in Kauai County could reach up to 20 to 25 feet, according to forecasters at the National Weather Service. The north-facing shores for areas in the advisory could see surf up to 18 to 22 feet, while west-facing shores could see 12- to 16-foot waves.
Beachgoers are advised to heed all advice given by ocean safety officials.
