Caldwell collects first major endorsement of mayoral race
Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell’s reelection bid received the endorsement of the Hawaii Construction Alliance today.
It’s the first major endorsement in the fledgling 2016 mayor’s race that’s only three months away.
The alliance consists of construction-related union organizations representing a combined 15,000 workers. The organizations include the Hawaii Regional Council of Carpenters, the Operative Plasterers’ and Cement Masons’ Union Local 630, the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 1; the Laborers’ International Union of North America Local 368; and the Operating Engineers Local Union No. 3.
Caldwell is the only major candidate to have announced and filed nomination papers for the election so far. Former Mayor Peter Carlisle and City Council Chairman Ernie Martin are considering challenges and appear to be making moves toward running. Former Lt. Gov. James “Duke” Aiona had also been considering a bid but told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser Wednesday that he is now inclined to not run.

No kidding
I’m sure an “embattled IBEW leader” will be next to endorse Krook Cadwell
Our mayor is doing a great job. No one said rail was going to be easy but he’s getting it done. Rail is for our better future.
Rail is for Krook’s future bid to be governor
Delirious.
Is ukuleleblue nuts? Who pays him to write that stuff?
idio-t
Follow the money train ! Built on time and on budget.
Surprise, surprise!!! What sort of concessions were made/promised … I wonder … at what expense to the tax payer??? The construction boom is so loud already that he permitting agencies cannot crank-out the permits without very long waits. Yet another short fall that goes back to our not so illustrious Mayor.
Mahalo SA for confirming that the union owns that evil face. Not that we didn’t know anyway.
Why am I surprised.
Sounds like all the Rail Building Unions! Hawaii Gove is really run by the unions.
Oh for god’s sake, can some one run against him. Neither Carlisle or Martin will win anyways, especially Martin.
Like Jim Nabors would say, ‘Surprise, surprise, surprise.”
Construction Alliance. Figures. Rail is for the construction workers.
And carpetbagging construction workers from the mainland. Aloha
They endorse Caldwell and give him campaign contributions. He gives them blank checks with no oversight.
Great deal for the Construction Alliance.
What happen to our dragstrip? Corrupt politicians and private developers.
Obviously……………………
The PRP gang should give him lots of money.
What rock is White hiding under? Waiting for the next election so he can get his dirty hands on Caldwell’s opponent?
Let’s hope that the people in the construction industry get out and vote. All the endorsement in the world do not mean anything unless people get out and vote.
It is no surprise that they endorsed Cardwell. Of course the hundreds of people from the mainland working on the rail and other construction projects cannot
vote here in Hawaii. We shall see. I think that Cardwell is in trouble he ” talks the talk ” to much.
They will the unions promise a plate lunch and they come running like flies to vote for the spam musubi on the menu.
Duh.
We really need a NEW mayor who has some brains and Vision. Kirk is taking us down the toilet and seems CLUELESS !
Duke is out. Panos gone.Cayetano no go. Martin no show. So who?
Trump 2016
Don’t mention aulani kaaihue, she’s just a nobody thinking that she’ll get anywhere. Best we just shut her up and steal her lands!! She don’t deserve to keep her land, well just throw frivolous accusations at her again until we attorneys rack up millions of dollars in bills against her then foreclose on her property. Then I can go home laughing at her ignorance!!
