What the mayor isn’t telling us is that his omnibus bill allows unlimited B&Bs in residential zoning (“Tighten rules for vacation rentals,” Star-Advertiser, Island Voices, Sept. 5). Moreover, the penalties and fines prescribed by the omnibus bill are discretionary, which means that they are unlikely to be enforced.

The omnibus bill would thus be a step backward, exacerbating our problems with illegal vacation rentals. It is unfortunate that the mayor failed to mention Resolutions 17-52 CD1 and 17-164, which would actually improve enforcement.
